Number 4 in the world

I had a good result on Saturday night and I was pleased with a third place finish and two rostrums in a month is not too shabby!

I did everything I could under the circumstances and we could talk for weeks about the if’s , ands or buts however in the end we were back in Poland and Tomasz was flying in his back yard. He was flawless apart from his first ride and fair play to him for taking a second bite of the cherry with both hands.

So here I am World Number 4 and I can sit back now and say I have had a good year. Some results have not gone according to plan but on the whole it was satisfactory from my point of view. The Silver medal was really close, but Crumpy did enough to clinch it and that’s racing.Congratulations must go out to Nicki for winning the World Championship.

Looking forward, I along with most of the riders are still very disappointed about the situation with the cancellation of the German GP. Still a lot of unanswered questions as far as I am concerned and nobody to blame but the adverse weather conditions. The stories have changed a lot since we arrived there on practice day and a big thanks to Tony Steel for stating his fear for the safety of the riders when he inspected the track on race day. The amazing thing on our behalf is that we were told that we should be at the track for practice again on Saturday (the scheduled day of the event) only to be kept there until after 12:00 pm before being called into a riders briefing where we got the controversial news. “The meeting is cancelled and will be rearranged next Saturday in Bydgoszcz and that’s that!!!! The FIM and Race Director had no interest in discussing this with the riders at all and just sat us there like school children and told us the deal. That’s when we realised how respected we really are! They did not want to listen to our suggestions at that point and even more amazing, did not even get an official apology. We were there, prepared and eager to chase our respective goals only to be treated like this. It was not even our fault. Svemo got penalised for the bad weather conditions that caused the incident in Gothenburg years back so what’s the difference here? I can appreciate that they have a lot of expenses as well as we do. The travel, hotels, tickets, food, sponsors etc. I believe that they had insurance so I hope that it will help them when it comes to considering our extensive costs as well. We will get some sort of repayment for this mistake but I hope that its going to be more than the last time in Gothenburg as we all lost a lot there as well. Again, it was nothing to do with us there either but we too had to pay for it. Crazy! I am not bitter that the meeting was run at Bydgoszcz as it’s a great race track with good club officials and awesome fans however it is just unfair to all the riders and even fans to go back to a GP venue that we were at only a month prior. I won the last event there and this time just got beat by a better rider on the night.

As for 2009, I am waiting to comment until after our rider representative has met with the FIM in the beginning of November to discuss all these issues as well as a number of other topics of concern. Thanks to all the sponsors, fans and supporters for backing me again this season and through the chaos from the last 2 weeks.

Regards

Greg
