Disaster in Ullevi

Greg had one of his worst Grand Prix in recent history. Starting from gate 2 in heat 1, the bike spun out of the start and Greg was left to play catch up. Greg finally did pass eventual winner Emil Sayfutdinov at the line for third place and one point. Greg said,  I made some changes to the bike between heats and the bike seemed a lot better in the next outing but disaster stuck going into turn 3. I caught a rut wrong and the bike straightens up and I ended up in the air fence. I landed awkwardly and hit both my elbows pretty hard on the track. Coming out for his third ride, Greg led from start to finish in front of a hard charging Fredrik Lindgren earning a valuable 3 points. So after 3 rides Greg had a total of 4 points with 6 points still on the line and a spot in the semi finals. By now the track was cutting up really  bad. This combined with the dust and low angle of the sun made riding extremely difficult. In his 4th ride, he was on the pace but could not make any ground on the fast charging Antonio Linback. So with only 1 point, it was all on the line. Only a win would allow any chance of making the semis. Greg led from the start only to have disaster strike in turn 2. He hit a hole causing a punctured rear tyre and the end to Greg's dream for Gold. The track conditions were terrible from the start, Greg said. In the very first heat it was dusty and it only got worse from there. It seems that they have a really hard time with the man made tracks outdoors. They can't seem to get the correct amount of water on the track. It is either too much or not enough, but we cannot dwell on this event. There are still 8 more GP's to be raced and a lot of points still on the table. I am looking forward to the next round in Parken Stadium in Copenhagen in two weeks time. They  seem to have found the right combination for the track there.
