Busy week and another GP
Last Sunday in Poland we had a tough match against Leszno. In the end we came away with what looked like an easy win, but they pushed us all the way at the same time. This was our last league meeting and the win ensured we stayed top of the league and all that was in front of a 16,000/17,000 strong crowd!
The Play-offs start in the next few weeks and we start with an away match in Wroclaw.
On Tuesday we were back in Sweden for our match at Marsana. The meeting was tough from the word go. We managed to pull ourselves back in to the meeting towards the end and we got a 5-1 in heat 15 which meant that we needed a 3-3 or better in the final heat to win the meeting. So the pressure was on in Heat 16 as Adam Shields and I went out to the start line but would you know it my fuel line broke. I frantically tried to get back to the pits to swap bikes, which I managed, but as I got back to the start line I had already been excluded under the 2 minutes rule. I guess that’s racing!
So all the pressure was now on Adam and all I could do was cheer from the pits. Adam didn’t make the best of starts but he rode a great race to overhaul Leigh Adams and get us the win, I was shouting so loud that my voice was almost a whisper by the end of the night. By winning the meeting we also got the bonus point, which means we are in a good position for the play-offs.
Last night was a rearranged fixture at Hammarby. A heavy shower about half past four seemed to set the tone for the night and the club seemed slow to get to working on the track to get it race ready. Then to cap it all off the tractor managed to put a meter long hole in the track between the 3rd and 4th turn which looked like a ramp in the middle of the track. The hole must have been about 6-8 inches deep and that certainly would not be fun on a speedway bike with no brakes and no suspension! Finally the meeting was cancelled about 8.30pm as we had a 10.30 curfew that we were never going to make. I suppose in hindsight it should have been called off a lot earlier.
And so the GP time again and practice from tomorrow’s Swedish GP. In some ways this is nearly local GP for me.
I have had a really good practise today. The track was quite hard without much dirt on it, that you could liken it to a billiard table.
I tried all three bikes and they all felt like winners. I am ready to make that break through tomorrow and do it tomorrow.
