Greg Hancock has revealed that he is stepping away from the Polish Ekstraliga for 2018, and has also found a new club in Sweden, signing for Dackarna Malilla.
The four-time World Champion will not be racing in the top division in Poland next year after turning down a raft of offers, while Piraterna’s relgation to the second tier in Sweden means Greg has moved to remain in the ElitSerien with Dackarna for next season.
“First of all, I am super excited to have signed with Dackarna and I can’t wait to get started already. It’s a great club and with Peter Karlsson as team manager, it sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun. We spent a lot of years racing against each other and we have a similar outlook on things so it’s going to be great to be on the same team for once!” he said.
“I have decided that I won’t ride in the Polish Ekstraliga next year and for now my focus will be on Dackarna and, if I am lucky enough to be given a place in it, the Speedway Grand Prix series. We have some big plans for the 2018 SGP season, which I’ll reveal after 31st October, but first I need a place so fingers crossed I get a wild card.
“Of course, I want to thank both the fans at Piraterna and at Torun for all of their support. I had a lot of great times with Piraterna and it sounds as if they have settled their issues and are building a good team for the Allsvenskan, so a big thank you to the fans, riders, officials and sponsors there and I hope they get back up into the top tier as soon as possible.
“I only had two years with Torun, one of which was cut short, but it was a lot of fun and it’s an awesome club. The fans there were always great to me and I wish them every success in the future, the fans deserve a winning team there and I hope they get it.
“I’ll be revealing more on my plans for next season after 31st October so keep your eyes peeled, I think it’s going to get a lot of people pretty excited so stay tuned.”
