Greg Hancock has expressed his disappointment that Stal Rzeszow were refused a license to race in the 2019 season.
Greg led Rzeszow to Division 2 glory last season and was set to spearhead their First Division charge this year, but the club were refused a license after falling into some financial difficulties.
The American racer spoke of his disappointment that the club won’t take to the track this year,
It really bums me out what’s happened there and it came as a big shock to me I must admit.
“I’ve always liked Mr Nawrocki, the club President, I liked his ideas and what he wanted to do with speedway and he was one of the main reasons I signed for the club last season.
“There’s obviously lots of political stuff going on but it’s not nice to hear that there has been some financial issues. I sure hope that he’ll resolve that in the future and get the club back on an even keel again.
As well as losing his own team place, Greg is most disappointed for the thousands of fans who cheered the club to success last season, saying,
Nobody wins out of it – the riders, the sponsors, most of all the fans.
“They don’t have a club to support in 2019 and that’s the real shame of it all, but I’m hopeful that he can fix it and get the ball rolling again so speedway comes back to the city as soon as possible. The fans are getting robbed of seeing the club go to the next level, we had such a successful year last year and we all thought it was just the start, we thought we were on the edge of something pretty big.
“It’s disappointing for everyone and I’m hoping that it’s resolved one way or another so the city can keep its club.
With his Polish team place now gone, the four-time world champion is open to offers but accepts that, at such a late stage, he may have to be patient.
“Of course I’m open to offers – I actually haven’t had any approaches at all. Nobody has come to me directly and put a proposal in front of me but I know that most clubs are probably already sorted.
“If someone came forward and put an offer in front of me then I’d of course look at it but we’ll see.
“I have my team place in Sweden with Dackarna, and I am so excited about that, we have a great team and it’s an awesome club, so I’m happy to just wait and see what happens.”
