Greg Hancock has his eyes fixed on the Speedway Grand Prix medal plates after charging to a podium finish in the 2018 Slovenian GP.
Greg enjoyed one of his best nights of the season so far by racing to 15 points and third place after a string of brilliant victories, and it dragged him to within just five points of the overall top three with two rounds remaining.
The four-time champ accrued 12 points in his five qualifying races and then had to work overtime to keep title challenger Bartek Zmarzlik behind him in the semi final. The Polish racer tried everything to get past but Greg used every trick he knew to stay ahead and grab a place in the final alongside Patryk Dudek, Jason Doyle and Freddie Lindgren.
Greg had to contend with the unfavourable gate four and came out on top in a brilliant battle with Lindgren for third to claim his second podium finish of the season and jump to sixth in the standings.
He was understandably pleased with his night’s work, saying; “I always want to win and I didn’t do that tonight but third place is good, it was a tough night and you had to work hard so to come home with 15 points and a place in the top three is a pretty good night’s work.
“The team did a great job with the bikes and I knew they were fast, so I just had to put the bike in the right place and it makes a big difference when you know you’ve got something working for you.”
On his chances of gatecrashing the top three, Greg said; “All I need is a chance and now we have one. We clawed some points back on third place tonight and we’ve still got a bit to make up but it’s nice to be back on the podium and back scoring big points again. Now we’ve got two rounds left and we’ll be going hard to try and finish as high up as we can.”
